FOR REMOTE SCHOOLS IN THE NORTH
Nine schools in the three provinces in the Northern division will soon have access to internet and telecommunication services.
Deputy Secretary at the Office of the Prime Minister Sakeasi Waikere on wednesday signed small grants scheme agreements with the Telecom Fiji Limited to install Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) systems at the schools.
The programme was chosen for five schools in the province of Cakaudrove, three schools in the Macuata province and one school in Bua. VSAT System is a two-way satellite ground station with a dish antenna.
It is used to transmit narrowband data (example, point-of-sale transactions using credit cards, polling or RFID data, or SCADA), or broadband data (for the provision of satellite Internet access to remote locations, VoIP or video).
“The project costing $162,448.20 aims to provide the nine schools with easy access to internet and telecommunications services,” Mr Waikere said.
The nine schools were identified by the Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama during his official visit to the Northern Division in June this year.
Mr Waikere said until now these schools did not have access to internet and telecommunication services because of their remote location and poor network coverage.
The nine schools are:
■Saqani High School, Lakeba Village, SaqaniCakaudrove
■Napuka Secondary School, Napuka, TunuloaCakaudrove ■Tunuloa Catholic School, Karoko Village, Tunuloa-Cakaudrove
■Nakobo District School, Nakobo-Cakaudrove
■Domonisavu Primary School, Nayarabale-Cakaudrove
■Namuka District
School, Visoqo Village, Namuka-Macuata
■Kia District School, Ligau-Macuata ■Namuka-i-Cake Primary School, Namuka-Macuata ■Kubulau District School, KubulauBua.
