Confident Aleha: Being Dux Was No Surprise
Being awarded the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial School (MGM) dux of the year was no surprise says the confident, 18-year-old Aleha Narayan. The Year 13 lass was also awarded the highest English and Biology subject awards.
“I have always been inspired to be the best I can be and my parents have been part of that,” Aleha said.
She is the eldest of two sisters and hopes to be an inspiration for her younger sister and hope that more young people take education more seriously.
“Education is one thing can be part of our identity. It represents us and we must aim to have better education.”
She wants to become a doctor. She was part of the Physics team that came in second place at this year’s national Physical competition organised by the Ministry of Education.
She was also awarded the Year 12 Certification Examination highest mark award. She scored 377 out of 400. She also got the Year 12 English, Chemistry and Physics subject awards. Meanwhile, Grace Malie, 18, who took the Outstanding Student award dedicated her achievement to her father who had just passed away recently.
Grace said as much as she would love to take all the credit she could not have done so without God’s guidance.
A teary Grace said: “I would like to thank my parents especially my father. This is all for him.”
She hopes to pursue her studies in Accounting and Economics in Australia.
“I thank everyone for believing in me, it has been amazing and a privilege to be part of this school.” The Tuvaluan lass was the vice president of the school’s student council and was awarded the Economic Year 13 subject award.
