Team Fiji table tennis rep Harvi Yee and her two daughters Sally and Grace will be out to make their mark at the Pacific Mini Games.

Sally, 16, and Grace, 15, were part of the women’s team that thrashed Tuvalu by five games to nil at the Korman Stadium in Port Vila, Vanuatu, yesterday.

“I feel happy, excited and I cannot wait to see them (Grace and Sally) make Fiji proud in the rest of the games,” Harvi said.

“I will always stand by their side to not only support them but the rest of the team as well.”

The 38-year-old hopes that she will play one of her daughters in one of the future fixtures of the game. “Maybe during the singles I want to play them and try to beat them despite the fact that they are too good.”

Both Grace and Sally have represented Fiji in other international sporting events but is wary of the challenge coming from Vanuatu. “They have very good players and we are all aiming to win the gold medal but we will be doing our very best to beat them,” Sally added.

LOST SHOES FAIL TO DETER WU

Young table tennis player Vicky Wu did not let his country down by taking part in the round robin competition at the Korman Stadium in Port Vila, Vanuatu, yesterday. The 12 year-old Yat Sen student lost his shoes just days arriving into Port Vila.

Team Fiji attache Pastor John Soqeta said Wu really missed his shoes but showed a lot of character by taking part in the competition. He’s going to feature in the men’s singles and doubles events. Team Fiji table tennis coach Anthony Ho says, the future of the sport is in the hands of young athletes like Wu. “Vicky is a very talented young athlete who has represented the Oceania twice in the World Cadet table tennis championships and its players like these that will carry the future of table tennis forward,” he said.

“We are confident that Vicky will do well in this Pacific Mini Games.

“He’s the youngest athlete not only in the table tennis contingent but most probably the whole Pacific Mini Games competition.”
