The Minister for Local Government, Environment, Infrastructure and Transport has warned politicians not to mislead landowners.

The comment came after Parveen Bala said that he was visited by a group from an informal settlement along the Nausori-Suva corridor yesterday.

Mr Bala said the group claimed that some politicians and landowners were giving them false information.

He said it was worrying that the misinformation would have cost the homes of at least 300 people in that settlement.

Mr Bala confirmed this during the ground breaking ceremony of the Davuilevu Residential Subdivision at 9 miles yesterday.

“And I must warn those politicians to please do not mislead our landowners because we have built this relationship some years ago so do not disturb this arrangement,” Mr Bala said.

Mr Bala said the partnership between the landowners, the Methodist Church in Fiji and Government was an example to live by.

It was a partnership for the betterment of the lives of the people of Fiji, Mr Bala stated.

754 residential lots will be developed at the Davuilevu Residential Subdivision project.

Out of this, 301 residential lots will be completed by August next year and the remaining would be completed by September 2019.

“The development will have all basic infrastructure like sewerage, water, electricity, roads, driveways, etc, as it will be a fully serviced lot,” Mr Bala said.

The residential lots will give the people a land security, a chance to access the $10,000 Government grant and improve their living standards. Mr Bala said there were many people who had been residing in informal settlements who could now benefit from these residential lots and Housing Authority which was now offering the lowest interest rates.

“And that is what I am saying that in this sort of development everybody benefits,” Mr Bala further said.
