Dr Koroivueta leads delegation to Indonesia
Permanent Secretary for Women, Children and, Poverty Alleviation, Dr Josefa Koroivueta, headed a 9 member delegation to the 3rd Joint Technical Working Group to Indonesia.
The meeting is between Fiji’s Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation and the 2 Indonesian Ministries (Women Empowerment and Child Protection and the Ministry of Social Affairs).
The Group discussed on areas of co-operation for both countries and also the cross cutting issues that both Fiji and Indonesia can work on to improve social protection and alleviate poverty.
Dr Koroivueta in his welcoming remarks stated that; “Since 2011 Fiji has benefitted from a number of programmes with the Indonesian Government in the areas of Women in Leadership, Women’s Economic Empowerment, Elimination of Violence Against Women, Cultural and Expert, Exchange the sharing of best practices in dealing with women’s issues and child protection and most recently in Gender Mainstreaming focusing on the area of Gender Responsive Planning and Budgeting. Fiji has opportunities to better its social protection, child protection, services to people with disabilities, with the bilateral cooperation”.
“There are challenges that are similar and are cross cutting issues across nations such as climate change. We are also focusing on graduating our people from welfare assistance to be self-reliant.
“We would like to learn the best practices and innovations that Indonesia has to offer.”
The week long meeting will be on the discussion of the previous MOU that was signed by the Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation with the Ministry of Women Empowerment and Child Protection and also the Ministry of Social Affairs in 2013.
Future co-operations are also on the agenda of the meeting in areas such as exchanges of experts, training programmes for staff development.
The delegation raised a new agenda which is the challenge of ageing and succinct programme for people living with disabilities. In speaking to the Fiji Delegation and government officials, Dr Muman Nuryana the Head of Delegation for the Ministry of Social Affairs said: “The decision to choose Yogyakarta as the alternate venue for the meeting is based on the province’s advance programs in social welfare and the commitment of its community to improve their collective wellbeing.
