Nursing school creates four new courses: Naidu

The Then India Sanmarga Ikya Sangam (TISI) Sangam College of Nursing and Health Care Education is currently in the process of developing four new post diploma courses. This was revealed by the TISI Sangam academic board chairman Amraiya Naidu.
“The courses are in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Cardiac/Coronary Care Unit (CCU), Public health, leadership and management,” Mr Naidu said.
“The draft CCU curriculum was presented to the Fiji Nursing Council last week.
“The valuable suggestions received will be incorporated and after further consultations with stakeholders, submission will be made to FNC for their decision.
“The other two courses are still work in progress.” “Our college in partnership with the Australia-Pacific Technical College (APTC) commenced the delivery of a new aged care training programme which began in July,” he said.

Mr Naidu said with an increase in the life span of people, the need for individual support was growing both at home and in the neighbouring developed countries.
He said there would be ample job opportunities for those who undertook the course. Mr Naidu said TISI Sangam had built and operated several early childhood centres.
“21 primary and five secondary schools some of which are among the largest in the country,” Mr Naidu said.
“In 2005, the management took a giant leap forward to establish Sangam College of Nursing, a tertiary institution in Labasa.
“This is the 12th year in operation.”
During the period, the college graduated 445 students with diploma qualification, 27 enrolled nurses, 59 midwives and eight nurse practitioners with postgraduate diplomas.
The college in 2013 implemented degree course in nursing.
