Style Fiji Fashion Show

Project Bula Mai chairperson

It was most unfortunate that our Style Fiji Fashion Show was downgraded by the event described by Mr Parmesh Chand. It is not the image my committee wishes to present to the public.

On behalf of the committee I apologise not only to Mr Chand but also those who attended the event, including the ministers present, who may hold similar views. I assure all, sponsors included, that this will not occur in future events.

Our designers who showcase their talents at Style Fiji have complete autonomy as to their presentations. However, we do rely on their common sense and integrity to uphold the standards we represent.

That such incidents are simultaneously broadcast on social media demands responsibility from not only those involved , but also those who choose to circulate them. We certainly do not condone such acts and had we been aware of what was to come, would have prevented it.

On a positive note, Style Fiji 2017 raised over $100,000. After deduction of expenses we will present a significant donation to Cure Kids Fiji.

It is also a platform on which our local entertainers can expose their talents. It is pleasing to note that as a result of their excellent performances, they have been contacted to perform at other venues. Project Bula Mai, our registered Charitable Trust, will again present Style Fiji on the first Saturday in December 2018 at the same venue, minus such contentious presentations. was the target, today it is the Muslim community.

Who will it be tomorrow? First it was the politics of race, today, it is the politics of religion. Tomorrow? We are all Fijians, we have always lived peacefully except when politicians focused on fear and insecurities and we have seen this led to chaos.

Do not fall for the same trap today. We have nothing to fear. No matter what anyone says, our land is secure. Our culture is secure. We are secure. Do not let old politicians ruin the country. They were in power and achieved nothing. Fiji has progressed in the last 10 years and more progress will be done with the right policies in place now.

And the worst of them, are politicians, who are keeping shut about this and hoping that this fear will lead to a change in Government. Shame on you. God Bless Fiji.

The Vakaliwaliwa family from Nabuna Village in Koro Island is all excited and happy that one of its daughters Venina TinaigumugumuVakaliwaliwa also known as Tina is now Dr Vakaliwaliwa.

This is after she graduated on Tuesday after five years of study and training. All credit should go towards her mother who is also from Nabuna Village for taking care of her through thick and thin and also to all her siblings, family and friends for encouraging her to push on.

Her father who lives in the USA should also be praised for his financial and parental support even though he resides overseas and visits every now and then. Dr Nina Vakaliwaliwa deserves a standing ovation from her family and friends for keeping focused on her goal and dream to become a doctor, despite the family turmoils she went through.

We give God the glory for Dr Tina Vakaliwaliwa's calling in life and it is our prayer that as she remains connected to the creator of life, she will become a blessing to all her patients in imparting everything she has learnt as a doctor.

God bless you Dr Vakaliwaliwa, you have made us proud!
