Since his childhood days Tevita Galu, from Ra, had always believed teaching to be a ‘noble’ profession. So much so that it shaped his career choice. On Wednesday he graduated with a Bachelor of Education (Primary) from the Fiji National University’s College of Humanities and Education.

Flanked by family members from both his paternal and maternal side, the outspoken 22-year-old gave thanks to God Almighty for being his source of strength throughout his three years of study.

“He gave me the courage, wisdom and knowledge in order for me to succeed in my studies,” he said. “Throughout my studies I had experienced many ups and downs, but the long sacrifice has paid off today.”

his needs were met, even with the little they earned.

“My aunty who is a nurse motivated me to study well and I just want to follow in her footsteps so I can earn a better living in the future,” he said.

“During my final year of study I was a private student and some of the difficulties I faced was the lack of financial support since my parents are just farmers they had to sell root crops and vegetables to support my education and the credit goes to them especially.”

Mr Galu encouraged youths to obey their parents ‘because they are our god on earth’. “My plan in future is to continue my studies after three years in the teaching field then I want to pursue my post graduate studies.” On Tuesday, Mr Galu’s brother, Inosi Naivi, graduated from FNU’s College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences with a nursing degree.
