METHODIST MINISTER IN DEADLY CRASH
Holiday plans end on Labasa-Nabouwalu highway
While households in Fiji will be in joyful spirits preparing for Christmas celebrations the family members of Methodist Church minister Reverend Esala Nasaroa are in mourning.
Reverend Nasaroa was
involved in a fatal accident along the Labasa to Nabouwalu Highway in Vanua Levu on Wednesday night. Originally from Lekutulevu Village in Macuata province, Reverend Nasoro, 56, left his Davuilevu home in Viti Levu last week to spend the Christmas holidays with his relatives.
Close family members were in a state of shock upon hearing the news of his untimely death because Reverend Nasaroa left them 11 days before Christmas and had just celebrated his birthday earlier this month.
Niece, Dilule Vuki, said her loving uncle, carried his responsibilities to preach, teach and administer the church through pastoral guidance as well as led the congregation under his care with a Christ-like character.
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said Reverend Nasaroa lost control of his vehicle and it veered off the road before landing in a culvert. “He was rushed to the Dreketi Health Centre, but pronounced dead on arrival.”
Dates for the funeral gathering and burial are yet to be confirmed. Incoming president of the Methodist Church Reverend Epineri Vakadewavosa said the late Reverend was in involved in a number of projects in his village.
“He is an ex-scholar of Queen Victoria School, he left Queen Victoria and went to stay at the village for a while.
“After years at Lekutulevu Village, he went to further pursue his studies at Theology College for three years in 2003 to 2005 and later earned his Masters.
“He was a lecturer at Davuilevu and the Turaga Ni Yavusa of Lekutulevu and looked after his ministry and work well. “Reverend Nasaroa was a family man. “He was well-groomed and presentable at every church service.”
