- NACANIELI TUILEVUKA ALL SET TO GO Nacanieli Tuilevuka

Today is a historic occasion for boxing fans in the North as for the first time they are going to watch women boxers slugging it out in the ring. Boxer Asena Dakua told SUNsports yesterday that she is confident of winning her fight against Visila Kolitapa at Subrail Park, Labasa this afternoon. The 18-year-old Navosa lass, fights in the middleweight division and is the daughter of former Fiji light heavyweight and cruiserweight champion Sakiasi ‘The Bomb’ Dakua. Trained by her brother, Asena has called on boxing fans to come out and watch them fight.

“I expect a tough competition from Visila Kolitapa,” she said.

“It’s going to be an interesting battle because we both want to win. I know Kolitapa is a good boxer and is coming prepared for the fight.”

Dakua who is unbeaten said she has been fighting regularly and has prepared well for the fight.

“I’ve been training every afternoon with my brothers and cousins. I spend about three to six hours at the gym,” she said.

Her manager Paula Kubu said they’re expecting a tough fight.

“We will take it as it comes and we’ve prepared well,” he said.

Canada-Fiji Southern Boxing promoter Simon Naushad said their promotion is to help revive the sport in Vanua Levu.

“A lot of great boxers are from the North and people do still take-up the sport but it is as not as popular as it was before.

“That is why we’re bringing boxing back to the North, to help revive the sport and there are a lot of hidden talents,” he added.
