Hotel Workers Share Message of Love, Hope

- KARALAINI TAVI Edited by Percy Kean

Love and hope was the special Christmas message shared to residents of St Mina’s Children’s Home by the Melanesian Hotel staff members on Thursday. The home, which is based at Martintar, Nadi, has been in operation for three years and comes under the Coptic Orthodox Church’s Diocese of Melbourne, Australia.

As a part of its community programme that has been in place throughout the year, a group from the hotel visited the home with gifts.

Melanesian Hotel manager Sathiya Pillay said indulging the children with gifts and goodies is what they look forward to this Christmas. “We have always taken the initiative in taking part in various community projects and supporting various organisations as such,” he said.

“These kids are without their parents and some have been neglected as well.

“We want to share with them the feeling of belonging, understanding and being wanted. “Through this we are doing whatever we can to help by gifting them with user based items, toys, books and bags.”

Hotel staff members spent the day socialising with the children who enjoyed cakes and juice. Assistant Home manager Nadia Mikhaiel said it was good to see people portray the gospel of Christ by showing that love can come in any form.

“Love has always been our main principle here at the home,” she said.

“Jesus came to earth to show his love for us, people need to first truly love one another. Love can be portrayed in many ways, one of which is in the form of sharing gifts.”
