Man United, Man City cleared by FA

The FA will take no formal action against Manchester United or Manchester City following a tunnel altercation in the aftermath of the derby on December 10.

The incident occurred following City’s 2-1 victory at Old Trafford when Jose Mourinho was irked by the loud music and celebrations from City’s open dressing room as he made his way to his post-match press conference. An altercation followed when he made his feelings known to City goalkeeper Ederson and the United boss then had a carton of milk thrown towards him from inside the dressing room which hit one of his backroom staff, Sky sources understand. A statement from the FA said: “Following a review of the evidence provided by the clubs and independent eyewitnesses The FA will be taking no formal action.” s Manchester City assistant coach Mikel Arteta suffered a cut to the head in the incident but no punches were thrown.

United were surprised by the manner of City’s celebrations and an angry Mourinho questioned City’s behaviour and education when asked by reporters about the incident a couple of days later.

The FA has also decided not to punish Mourinho for comments made in the buildup to the derby when he claimed it only takes a “little bit of wind” to knock over City’s players but did warn him over his future behaviour.

The FA said in a statement: “Following a review of the evidence provided by the club the FA will be taking no formal action, but have reminded Jose Mourinho any further public comments about match officials may result in disciplinary action.”
