INVESTIGATIONS Police Brutality Will Not Be Condoned – ACP Tuidravu
The Fiji Police Force will not condone Police brutality and a recent posting on social media of an alleged incident will be fully investigated, if found to be real.
Chief of Operations ACP Rusiate Tudravu said they would have to first establish if this incident was true and if it had taken place then an investigation would be conducted.
He has already been briefed by the Divisional Police Commander West Acting SSP Abdul Khan on this matter.
“I have already told our Police officers and reminded the DPC we will not condone police brutality in the force. This is also what Commissioner of Police Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho had already said,” ACP Tudravu said.
“We don’t want to portray unprofessionalism.
“Police officers are also human beings, but we are trained to be cool, calm and collected and that is the underlying character of a Police officer.
“We are encouraging our officers to reach that stage.”
Meanwhile, a review of Police operations throughout Fiji yesterday found there were no serious crimes recorded.
ACP Tuidravu said this was because they had focused their attention on the reduction of serious crime, drug related activities and robberies.
“We had focused throughout the year on the farms and those who planted but during this Christmas period we concentrated on those in possession,” he said.
“In our operations the area on drugs is where we concentrated on.”
These operations will include Police visits to public areas, drinking spots and nightclubs.
“From there, other criminal activities emanate,” ACP Tudravu said.
“During the review today we noted there were gaps and a need to improve on our service delivery.
“As much as we focus on the operations, the service delivery should be there 24 hours and seven days a week.”
Police will be out in numbers to protect those people who want to enjoy the New Year Eve’s street parties that have been planned.
He urged people to enjoy themselves and he warned troublemakers that Police would not hesitate to lock people over New Year if they were intent on causing trouble or committing a crime.
