$25K Boost For 2017 CVC

Pillay Garments has provided $25,000 for the 2018 Champions Versus Champions series between Lautoka and Labasa.

This is an increase of $3,000 from last year. Pillay Garments and the Fiji Football Associatio­n signed a new five –year partnershi­p deal yesterday.

“We have signed a new agreement for the next five years,”Fiji Football chief executive officer Mohammed Yusuf said. “Narendra Pillay should be applauded for investing in football. He has been sponsoring this tournament for the past 20 years. “This tournament will set the pace on how Fiji FA will run competitio­ns every year,” Yusuf said. The first round of CVC will be hosted by Labasa at Subrail Park 1pm on Saturday and the second round will be hosted at Churchill Park, Lautoka next Saturday at 7pm. The winner will receive $5000 and runners up will get $2,500. Pillay Garments director Narendra Pillay acknowledg­ed Fiji Football for giving them the opportunit­y.

“We thank Fiji FA for giving us another chance to sponsor the CVC and it will be exciting to watch the game between Lautoka and Labasa,” Pillay said.

Both teams are raring to win their third title as both teams have won twice.

Labasa won their first CVC in 1993 where they defeated Ba 1-0 and their second win in 2008 again defeating the ‘Men in Black’ 3-1. Lautoka had their first win in 2010 after thrashing Ba 7-0.

The sugar city side won its second title last year when they defeated Ba 1-0.

Tickets cost $5 and will be on sale from today.
