New Zone Open Taxi Base Operations Now In Progress
Taxi operators are happy with the new zone open taxi base operations.
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) have confirmed the new zone open taxi base operations are now in place as January 1 this year.
Taxi operator, Professional Taxis and Tours managing director Shalendra Prasad, said it was a great initiative by the Government and the LTA to open the taxi operations to zones.
“We are very happy to learn that taxi drivers can drive from zone open bases,”he said.
“It is very fair for the drivers as not all bases had customer attention to utilise the taxis.
“With the zone open base taxis, the drivers can pick up passengers as they travel along the routes.
“We definitely support the idea of open bases. Because places like Post Office, MHCC and market are a busy place for people to catch taxi from. So this way, other drivers can pick up passengers.”
Regent Taxis managing director Harish Chandra said the new initiative would help the drivers to have a fair chance of picking the passengers and earn a living.
“The zone open taxi base is a very good initiative by the Government and LTA to allow all the taxi drivers and operators to have a fair chance of picking up passengers,”he said.
“This will allow taxi operators to operate within their zones which will help the taxi industry to grow faster and communicate with each other better.
“There is always a demand for taxis in many areas but some areas do not, so those drivers are not able to earn a living for their family.
“This initiative will allow everyone to earn a good and fair living for their families,” Mr Chandra said.
