Georgia hire top coach for 2019 RWC
Ospreys’ strength and conditioning coach Kevin Morgan has accepted an offer to take up the job as head of physical performance with Georgia.
Morgan will help the Lelos prepare for the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan, where they will be Wales’ first opponents and also play the Fiji Airways Flying Fijians.
He has been part of the Ospreys’ set-up since 2009 when he combined playing for Neath with working in the regional age-grade system, before joining as a full-time member of staff a year later.
After confirming his move, Morgan said: “This is an exciting opportunity for me to work with one of the rising, most improved nations in world rugby. A chance like this, to help take a team into the Rugby World Cup, doesn’t come around that often. “Georgian rugby is renowned for its physicality and I’m looking forward to working with the squad to help them achieve their full potential and develop into a recognised tier one nation. “I’ve been part of the Ospreys staff for nearly 10 years and I’m extremely grateful to everybody at the region I’ve worked with in that time for the support that has allowed me to develop as a person and as a coach. “Opportunities like this one are rare so when you get the chance you have to take it with both hands. While I’ll be sad to say goodbye to some outstanding people I’ve been fortunate to work with here, it’s the right move for me at this point of my career.
Ospreys’ head coach Steve Tandy said: “This is a great opportunity for him to step up to international level with one of the up and coming nations.”
