Athletics Fiji has been allocated five spots in the Team Fiji contingent for the Commonwealth Games.

These were the only spots given by Commonwealth Games organisers, but Athletics Fiji president, Joseph Rodan said they would be working on trying to get more spots for their athletes.

“So we will be taking our gold medallists from the Pacific Mini Games,” he said.

These include; 1500m runner Petero Veitaqomaki, 100m sprinter Aaron Powell, high jumpers Sireli Bulivorovoro and Shawntell Lockington and 400m runner Miriama Senokonoko.

However, Rodan Snr said they would be trying to include their relay teams into the Team Fiji contingent.

“We would like to take our relay teams for both the men and the women’s but in the end it is up to the Commonwealth Games organisers.” Moreover, Rodan Snr said that there has been no update regarding their appeal for the disqualification of sprinter Powell during the Pacific Mini Games.

He said they would be standing by their appeal because they believe that the 100m Pacific Mini Games Gold medal rightfully belonged to Powell. Former Marist Brothers High School sprinter Albert Miller Junior is the recipient of the Oceania Australia Foundation Scholarship programme offered by ONOC to prospective student-athletes to train and study in the United States of America.

Miller will be attending Southwestern Community College.

His dad Albert Snr also trained in the US and was the region’s top decathlete and 110m hurdler while mum Litiana is the former Pacific sprint queen.
