The Nasinu Town Council will be meeting ratepayers to discuss a solid waste management plan in its efforts to keep the municipality clean. Nasinu Town Council chief executive officer Lute Berends confirmed the meeting with the seven wards this month.

“The council plans to work closely with the Suva Rural Local Authority through our Ministry of Local Government, Housing and Environment in mapping strategies on illegal dumping noted in upper stream areas creating litter nuisance in lower stream areas of Nasinu Town.

“The Council serves a total of 12,000 rateable properties and 18 informal settlements with 2000 households located in the informal settlements.”

The key priority area established for NTC, during its planning exercise for 2018, is to ensure Nasinu's Sanitation and Environment is promoted to be kept clean at all times.

“To support our initiative Government has provided waste collection subsidy, additional equipment and concession to Naboro Landfill,” Mr Berends said. “Kitchen waste collection has been planned twice weekly and free white goods and green waste collection on a quarterly basis."

Mr Berends said: "To zero in on illegal dumping and littering within Nasinu Town, Council has strengthened its LitterPrevention Officers team which shall be vigilant on the ground."

The Council is requesting ratepayers and citizens to fully support the council in its bid to keep Nasinu Clean and Green at all times.
