Prosecution delays plea for accused
A plea was deferred for a 27-yearold self-employed Lami man at the Suva Magistrates Court because the prosecution needed more time to confer with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution. The accused Mosese Voka represented by a private lawyer appeared before Magistrate Jioji Boseiwaqa charged with two counts of obtaining financial advantage by deception.
Voka is alleged to have dishonestly obtained $750 on November 5, 2016 from a 65-year-old complainant.
For his second count, he allegedly obtained $2250 from the same complainant on November 7, 2016.
Police prosecutor Corporal Sanil Kumar said the State would seek advice from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions in regards to the charges against the accused.
Magistrate Boseiwaqa extended Voka’s bail and adjourned the case to March 19 for plea. Jovesa Bogidrau, who is charged with one count of rape, is alleged to have committed the offence on January 8 this year in Savusavu. He appeared before Magistrate Jeremaia Savou.
In court Bogidrau pleaded guilty and sought assistance from the Legal Aid Commission. Magistrate Savou told Bogidrau that the matter was a serious one and it would be transferred to the High Court in Labasa. Magistrate Savou said Bogidrau would be remanded at the Labasa Corrections Centre at Vaturekuka until he would be presented again at the High Court in Labasa on January 19, 2018.
