Students Advised to Enrol in Registered Institutions
The Fiji Higher Education Commission (FHEC) is advising students enrolling in higher education to choose registered institutions and to fully understand the courses and programmes they are enrolling in.
The FHEC is raising this to avoid future disappointment for students who may face issues over non-completion of courses because institutions close down spontaneously and qualifications from these institutions will go unrecognised.
FHEC director, Linda Aumua, pointed out that those institutions registered by the FHEC have been quality assured in terms of meeting institutional criteria to deliver as well as in teaching and learning.
“The FHEC is here to protect the interest of the people and we are advising students and parents not to be lured into cheap courses that appear quickly or promote unrealistic time frames for completion,” Mrs Aumua said. She also emphasised that students and parents have to thoroughly check out background information about the courses and programmes they have chosen. The public is advised to cross-check with the FHEC about the validity of institutions and their programmes by accessing the website www.fhec.org.fj
Registering these institutions and accrediting programmes are all part of the quality assurance of Fiji’s higher education system.
