President Leads Officers On Morning Walk
Fiji’s champion in the fight to reduce Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), president Major-General (ret’d) Jioji Konrote, yesterday urged police officers to make wise lifestyle choices.
As the lead advocate in the national fight against NCD’s, the president had earlier expressed his desire to walk with members of the Force and advocate the importance of living a healthy lifestyle.
In addressing the Commissioner of Police and officers after the early morning walk from the Sawani Community Post up to the Colo-iSuva Community Post, the President said police officers owed it to the nation to be fit and healthy. “We are one of the few organisations and being members of the disciplined forces that are paid by taxpayers to keep fit and when we are not fit, we are not earning our pay fairly because they put their trust and faith in you to keep up peace, law, and order”.
“Too many Police officers, soldiers, naval officers and civil servants are dying young because of the lifestyle choices we make and this can change by adopting healthier lifestyle choices”. Major-General Konrote said with 2018 being an important year for the nation, a lot will be asked of those maintaining law and order. “I would like to commend the Commissioner in maintaining readiness and operational posture as people will be looking to us to maintain peace and order with a very important year ahead of us with elections around the corner”. The Commissioner of Police Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho said it was an honour for the Force to have the President to join them for their morning walk as he is an inspiration and an example of what living a healthy lifestyle can achieve.
