Exxon Mobile Gives Over $29k to Fiji Red Cross
‘THIS IS OUR WAY OF SHOWING GRATITUDE AND SUPPORT OF THE HUMANITARIAN WORKS CARRIED OUT BY THE SOCIETY’
Fiji Red Cross Society has become $29,511.80 richer following a cheque presentation by Exxon Mobil Manager Patrick Bulaon to the Society.
The cheque was received by Fiji Red Cross Director General Filipe Nainoca in Suva, yesterday. Mr Bulaon said the cheque was to strengthen the partnership between Exxon Mobil and the Fiji Red Cross Society.
He said Exxon Mobil recognised the needs of a community does not only come during natural disasters. “This is our way of showing gratitude and support of the humanitarian works carried out by the society,” Mr Bulaon said.
“We want to continue our partnership and support. We know the need is constant. We know when disaster does strike, the Society is there to help the communities.” Mr Nainoca acknowledged the donation from Exxon Mobil.
“For us, any support is deeply and humbly appreciated because a donation such as this will help communities,” Mr Nainoca said. “Mobil is a very strong and close partner of Fiji Red Cross Society. This is not the first time for the organisation to show its support towards the Society.
“The organisation showed its support during Tropical Cyclone Winston and most importantly, the society is helping us in our preparedness programmes,” he said. Mr Nainoca said they would be purchasing solar appliances and telephones for their preparedness programmes for their officers in maritime areas such as Rotuma, Koro, Vanuabalavu, Lakeba, Rabi and Kadavu. The Fiji Red Cross Society has built emergency centres in the maritime areas through the assistance of the Australian-funded Resilient Fiji Project, including those in the Northern, Western and Central divisions.
The Fiji Red Cross Society had assisted around 80,000 people affected by Tropical Cyclone Winston in February 2016.
