Educational assistance offered is not a giveaway, but a practical way of ensuring that children in need of help can continue to access education. The Permanent Secretary for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Josefa Koroivueta, made the statement while handing over school supplies to the Care and Protection beneficiaries of Nasinu last week at the ministry’s head office in Suva.

Mr Koroivueta also thanked the World Health Organisation for donating school stationery and bags to Viliame Laliqavoka and Manjula Devi’s family.

At least five students received the school essentials during the handover.

Mr Koroivueta said the stationery were essential and an important part of the learning process for children to use in the classrooms and at home.

“It is important for the ministry because we want to continue to support the children in terms of educating the needy children in Fiji,” he said. “The ministry has strengthened its awareness programmes on the need for everyone to work together to protect our children, to ensure that no child is left behind and to prevent them from any form of abuse or neglect,” Mr Koroivueta said.

He urged the children to work hard so that they could unlock their potential and achieve their dreams in the future.

Mr Koroivueta said both families were grateful for the assistance.
