Another rugby product from Nadroumai Village, Nadroga aims to make a mark on his debut at the World Sevens Series in Sydney as from Friday. Home of the traditional healing clan who made headlines around the world in treating their own Waisake Naholo to be fit for the 2015 Rugby World Cup, Sydney or Hamilton, rising star Avete Daveta aims to make the world take notice this weekend. Daveta and fellow Nadroga player Vasikali Mudu will make their debut.

“I did not dream that I would play for Fiji in 7s as I’m more of a 15s player.

“This has been a pleasant surprise,”Daveta said.

“I need to learn and communicate more with the team on and off the field.

” I’m ready to do my country proud.” Since 2012 Daveta featured for his Nadroga provincial rugby side.

He was part of the Daveta rugby club that toured Ireland in 2015.

He was always inspired by Naholo and Nadroga head coach Esala Nauga.

“Naholo always tells me to play well as a lot of things can be achieved in rugby,” he said. The 23-year old plays centre/wing in 15s and rover/hooker in the abbreviated code. His clan have the God-giv traditional healers.

“I fix bones and joints, I have been doing this for years and I keep this gift and give glory to God,” Daveta’s father Josateki Vakalagi said. “I thank the God for Daveta and I’m so happy for him.

Daveta featured prominent for the Fiji Airways Fijian Drua in the Australian National Rugby Championship last year.

“I always make sure that I check his bones before and after the games,” he said. en gift of being
