- SHRATIKA NAIDU Edited by Mohammed Zulfikar Feedback: shratikan@fijisun.com.fj

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has encouraged parents of Bua and Cakaudrove provinces to send their children to school.

He was speaking at a talanoa session, during his Northern tour, that villagers and elders should take advantage of the Government education programmes and initiatives.

Initiatives like the free text books, free tuition grants, milk, Weet-bix and bus fare assistance.

“I don’t want to see children left out or unable to go to school,” Mr Bainimarama said.

“The Government has provided some assistance for your children and you must make an effort to find out and access it.”

He went out and spoke to the children to find out whether they had started attending school.

He told the village headmen that if they were facing any water, road, transportation or electricity problem then they should put it into writing and give it to the respective Government heads of departments.

“We will surely look into it and our officers will carry out assessment and see how best we can help,” Mr Bainimarama said.

“I am very surprised to hear some settlements facing water problem or road access problem in Savusavu for so many years. What is more surprising that no one has put this into writing or highlighted this to my officers?”
