Mohammed Raza, who topped the Year 12 examination at Jai Narayan College in Suva, wants to become an Aerospace Engineer. Mohammed, who is now a Year 13 student at the same school, scored 394 out of 400 in the Year 12 examination last year.

He scored 97 in English, Maths 100, Chemistry 97, and Physics 100.

The 18-year-old student from Navua said: “It was not easy getting this mark because there are some other smart students that I compete with in my class. “The exam was really good because I had prepared myself well throughout the year.

“I felt really proud of my achievement, and I’m thankful to my parents for their support, and all my teachers who have taught me well.”

He said aerospace engineering courses are not offered in Fiji and he has applied for a scholarship in Singapore. He hoped to get it soon.

“Ever since when I was in primary school I always had a dream of becoming a pilot, and I hope the subjects I’m taking now will lead me to my career path,” Mohammed said.

“At the end of this year I want to top all the Year 13 students around Fiji.” His parents who are both teachers were not surprised about his achievements.

His mother, Shabnam Raza, said they always believed in him.

“He is a very hardworking boy, who balanced his time with other leisure activities,” she said.

“We always encourage him and we always tell him the sky is the limit.” Mrs Raza said: “We looking forward to supporting our only child in whatever career path he wants to pursue.” Mohammed’s Maths and Physics teacher, Patrick Savea, said: “Mohammed has moved the level of the school to a higher level compared to the past years.”

Mr Savea said: “He was my best student, he has self-discipline and respect. Those qualities make him a perfect student.

“I will support him this year to get a good mark in his Year 13 exam.”

For Mohammed, since he joined the college in 2014, he has been travelling from Navua every morning and goes back after school.
