REVIVAL OF SIGATOKA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY

A group of key stakeholders have set out to revive the Sigatoka Chamber of Commerce and Industry. A meeting was held in Sigatoka last Sunday, it was lead by Dr Ram Raju, President of Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industry who has close links with Sigatoka, and Dr Salik Ram Govind. Dr Govind who is the owner of Shalini Gardens and Hotel in Olosara was appointed interim chairman. There were 17 interested members from various sectors of the business community who attended the meeting and also present was the Vice President of Fiji Chamber of Commerce and Industry Annemarie De Voss. Dr Raju highlighted the mission, vision, aims and objectives of Chambers of Commerce and Industry and how such an august body can contribute towards local and national economic growth, development, vestments and productivity. Members present unanimously agreed towards the revival but most importantly passed a motion that they be called or renamed Nadroga Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Other interim office bearers elected:

■Chairman : Dr Salik Ram Govind

■Vice chairman – Vijay Narayan of Sigatoka Electric

■Secretary/Treasurer – Dr Ashank Naidu, GP Five committee members

■Shanil Naidu (MD, True Blue Hotel), ■Sesha Reddy (businessman),

■Natwar Singh(businessman), ■Rajend Singh (businessman)

■and a lady member to be incorporated. The interim committee will soon draw up a constitution and later organise the inaugural general meeting. The invitation will be extended to all the business houses in Nadroga.
