WITH RESORT TO CLEAR NATADOLA RUBBISH

The staff of the InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort and Spa combined their effort with neighbouring schools to clean up the Natadola picnic area last week.

This included students from Malomalo Primary School and Rahmatullah Khan Memorial School.

Resort general manager Andrew Davidson thanked all the stakeholders including students that helped out.

Mr Davidson said, “Wow – it was an absolute mess. I am sure we managed to make a little dent in it and we will probably have to go out soon again – clean up some more. “There must have been some serious parties over December and everyone seems to have just dumped their rubbish.” However he remained disgruntled with how the rubbish was strewn all over left behind by picnickers.

“Not a nice culture at all – but you can be proud to be a member of the team – that does not sit back and let it go by – we actually get out there and look after Natadola Bay,” he said.

“I cannot tell you how many soiled disgusting nappies we picked up. We all had to be disinfected after the walk. And we could not even finish – due to time constraints and the sheer volume of rubbish. “The rubbish that we cleaned up on Friday – was absolutely crazy. It’s so sad that nobody cares – even with a bright yellow skip-bin standing right there – we just throw our rubbish on the ground.” Resort Employee Relations & Corporate Responsibility Manager Jacob Pauu who is spearheading the programme said this initiative was part of the InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) community social responsibility (CSR) where it splits into corporate environment sustainability and the community sustainability projects.

He said this was also possible through donations and fundraising for ‘Community Care’; a long term fund by InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) that financed numerous projects for the community.

Recently, the InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa acquired five skip bins that were placed at the picnic area including Sanasana village.
