Bollywood dance lovers in Nadi are in for a treat at Prince Charles Park this Sunday.

The Bollywood Dance Show is part of the Namaste Pasifika: Festival of India. It is part of a series of shows promoted and sponsored by the Indian High Commission in Suva. The show is free.

Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Dr Ram Raju said Fijians have been privy to similar cultural shows celebrating the 70th anniversary of India’s Independence.

“All the shows and cultural dance items have been of international standards from renowned centres throughout India,” Dr Raju said. “They have been showing major facets of the rich and diverse Indian culture. The Bollywood show is another major interesting facet that is gaining increasing popularity all over the world. Fiji is no exception.”

The entertainment programme is a six-month long event and has attracted large crowds. It is proof of the continued strength and special cultural bonds between India, Fiji and some of the Pacific Island countries, Dr Raju said. “I’m sure this Bollywood show to be staged at Prince Charles Park will attract record numbers for the people in the West. I’m sure many will travel from afar,’’ he said. “We are blessed to have such a high calibre show here on our doorsteps. I thank the Indian High Commission for making it possible.”

The Indian High Commission says Bollywood is a global brand.

It transcends racial, ethnic and linguistic boundaries. Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra and other Indian stars are very popular the world over and particularly in the Pacific region. Dance groups portraying the best of Bollywood dance and music are always in high demand in the region.

Recently, the Bollywood dance group Taka Dimi Ta has made tremendous impact on audiences in Fiji and received phenomenal response from audiences in Tuvalu as well.
