The country’s 2014 Commonwealth Games flag bearer Litia Tikoisuva is hopeful of participating at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia on April 4-15.

The Nacavanadi, Gau native is part of the Fijian lawn bowls extended squad and hopes to make the cut in the final five women’s travelling team.

“We’ve been working hard, it will not be an easy road for me as we wait for the final team announcement by the Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee next month,” she said.

“We have had two trials already. For me personally, so far so good as our final selection will depend on the training we are doing every day.”

The 55-year-old captained the Fijian women’s Triples and Fours teams in Glasgow which was her fourth Commonwealth Games. She first represented Fiji at the 1998, 2002 and 2006 Commonwealth events. She reached the singles quarterfinals in Melbourne, Australia in 2006. She was also the 2005 Asia Pacific Championship and 2015 Pacific Games gold medallists.

Tikoisuva is the Product Executive International Carrier Relations at Fiji’s International Telecommunications Provider (FINTEL) and currently enjoys her single life with the sport she fell in love with 29 years ago.

“I started playing bowls in 1988 during the business house competition and then they wanted a secretary, so I became a playing member.

“It was in 1994 when I was part of a development squad and in 1995 I started representing Fiji in the Asia Pacific Championship in Dunedin, New Zealand. I have represented Fiji on a number of times from 1995 until now and competed at the Asia Pacific Championship, World Championship, Commonwealth Championship and Pacific Games.

“I love bowling because at this age it’s important to stay healthy and also the friendship we have on the green is awesome,” she added.
