Commission reaches out to urban youths

The Fiji National Sports Commission (FNSC) will be having its second “Train the Trainer” programme at the Tamavua Village hall, outside Suva, on January 31.

According to the Commission, its teams have been visiting communities around the urban areas. “Trying to encourage and educate urban youths to get involved in sports administration, coaching and other programmes that can contribute to the improvement of sporting activities in our urban communities,” the Commission said. “The three-day Train the Trainer workshop for the 10 communities also include the Tamavua zone. There are three more zones to undergo this programme throughout the year.”

FUNDING

Assistant Sports Minister Iliesa Delana is expected to be the chief guest along with commission chairman Peter Mazey.

“The workshop will target 60 urban youths and they will be exposed to our fitness leader and sports in communities programme working with national sporting federations such as Fiji Rugby Union, Fiji Volleyball and Fiji Netball.

“This has been made possible through funding from FNSC who will also coordinate the workshop.” Tamavua village has produced some of our rugby stars like Fiji Airways Flying Fijians tighthead prop Manasa Saulo.
