This was revealed by the Minister for Local Government, Urban Development, Housing and Environment Praveen Bala during the ground breaking ceremony yesterday.

“The new facility will add value to sports in Ba and a high turnout of spectators will be expected,” he said. “The old stadium was damaged during Cyclone Winston in 2016 but with Government grant, the Ba Town Council will be constructing this new stadium.

“More events will be organised in this new environment and a higher turnout is expected when the facility is to be constructed to match the desires of our citizens.

He said the new 8000 bucket seating facility has a conference room with 200 seating capacity, gym facility, two squash courts, four players’ changing room, two dormitories, a medical room, a referees room with four canteens amenities

Bala added that the new stadium like the old one, will host international and local events and the younger generation would have the opportunity to get access to international facilities. “The new stadium will replace the old stadium which had a seating facility of 5000 while an embankment would be constructed on the town-end side of Govind Park.”

Work on the new stadium is expected to be completed in eight months.
