Dynamic Duo Ready to Lead School
“To be a leader is not only telling people what to do but it also means serving the people who look up to you,” says Gospel High School headgirl Amisha Maharaj
The two newly-inducted student head prefects at Gospel High School in Suva have been a team for quite some time. While headboy Timoci Ratudradra is the bigger and more imposing of the two, Amisha Maharaj’s firm advice has been integral to the smooth-functioning of the team.
If the duo, both Year 13 pure science students, are nervous as they prepare to undertake major leadership roles, it is difficult to notice. Proudly wearing the badge pinned on their uniform by the AttorneyGeneral and Minister for Education and Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, the head prefects said they were ready. “I wanted to become a leader because I wanted to inspire change and I will strive to be an exemplary one,” Amisha, 17, said.

While Timoci said: “Honestly, at first I was having second thoughts about the badge and the responsibilities that come with it.
“But I decided to take the challenge. I want to be a leader like the Lord Jesus Christ who shepherded his people with humility and respect.”
The headboy, originally from Vunaniu Village in Serua, was raised by his grandmother, Reave Lauji. He aspires to be a cardiologist. Ms Lauji was in tears yesterday when the Fiji Sun spoke to her. “I am so proud of my boy today,” she said.
“Growing up, he was always someone I could count on and today my chest has swelled up with pride to see him become headboy.” Amisha, also received the awards for recording the highest marks in biology, chemistry and English last year.
