Nakasi High School head prefects plan to bring unity and togetherness among teachers and students.

This comes after the school’s headgirl, Ashli Choy, and headboy Sitiveni Takayawa, were badged among 51 school captains, prefects and heads during the Nakasi High School’s prefect induction ceremony in Nakasi, Nasinu, on Friday.

Year 13 students, Ashli, 18, of Field 4, Lautoka and Sitiveni, 19, of Yaroi Village, Matuku, Lau, will work hard to keep students and teachers in unity to ensure better results for the school. Ashli was surprised when told she would be the headgirl for 2018.

“I did not expect it because it is my third year in the school and I usually kept to myself and hardly opened up to everyone,” she said. “I did not know that the teachers would vote for me to be the headgirl.

“I am happy that the teachers saw the potential in me that I could be fit for the position and they have guided me all throughout the three years.

“I am very thankful for my principal, Pravin Chand, who has inspired me a lot in many ways.

“I believe good leaders should know when to discipline students, but a better leader will try to instil unity and togetherness among all students and their teachers,” she said.

“I want to be a better leader who can help students and teachers work together and help each other. Our school should be a one big family.”

Sitiveni as well did not expect to be named headboy.

“It came to me as a big surprise, but I am thankful to the teachers who have given me this opportunity,” he said.

“As the headboy I will help the headgirl to achieve her goals and lead by example so students can also strive for the head prefect position in years to come,” Sitiveni said. LIST: Deputy headboys: Ryan Shankar and Rishup Shandil. Deputy headgirls: Akansha Chand and Adi Fane Sauvoli
