- SHRATIKA NAIDU Edited by George Kulamaiwasa

Ahmed Shah is aspiring to become a pilot. He sees being inducted as headboy of his school as a stepping stone to realising his dream.

As of last week, he now occupies a responsible position in Tabucola Valibar Primary School in Labasa. The school has 97 students on its roll.

“Being the headboy of the school is a milestone achievement for me,” said Ahmed, 13, after his induction.

“This is the beginning of becoming a pilot in future. I was surprised to be selected as the headboy of the school and I want to thank the teachers for giving me this lifetime opportunity.” Ahmed is the only child in his family and originally from Wailevu, Labasa.

“As the headboy of the school I will make sure to incorporate discipline in the students’ school culture. I will encourage them to focus on their studies so that we can have 100 per cent pass from Year One to Eight,” Ahmed said. Meanwhile, the newly-inducted headgirl, Shiviy Ram said, she was surprised when her name was announced.

“I am just an ordinary student whose father works as a carpenter at Pinto Industries Limited and my mother is a homemaker,’’ Shiviy, 13, said.

“Being bestowed with the honour of holding a headgirl’s badge is a proud moment for me and my family.”

Shiviy wants to become an accountant. She is the second eldest of three siblings and originally from Tabucola, Labasa.

The chief guest was Fiji Sugar Corporation field officer for the Wailevu Sector Asis Chand. He badged 21 prefects during Friday’s induction ceremony. Assisting Ahmed will be deputy headboy Jothamb Raj, while the deputy headgirl is Shahista Shania.
