The newly inducted headboy of Batinikama College and the 2017 Year 12 dux, intends to implement a strict time management system to juggle his responsibilities and achieve his dream of becoming a doctor. Mohammed Shohel of Wailevu, Labasa said he was surprised to be inducted as a headboy.

“I had a childhood dream of becoming a headboy, but when looking at my parents struggling to make a living, I decided to focus on my studies only,” the 17-year-old said.

“My father, Mohammed Sherriff, 46, is a causal worker at the Fiji Sugar Corporation Labasa Mill and my mother, Shamshad Bi, 45, does domestic duties.

“I am the only son in the family and my eldest sister got married,” Mohammed said. “Aspiring to become a doctor is something that will require me to work extra hard and now that I am the headboy, I have to make time for everything so that I can perform my roles as expected.

“I will look at the needs of my colleagues,

because after all I want to become a doctor to serve the nation and this is the beginning. “When I told my parents that I was inducted as a headboy they were so happy.”

Mohammed’s hobby is doing research. He scored 347 out of 400 in the Fiji Year 12 Certificate Examination.

Meanwhile, Elice Pillay, who is aspiring to become a nurse, was also surprised to be inducted as headgirl.

“Now that I am the headgirl, I will work with the 23 teachers making sure that our 166 students from Year Nine to 13 achieve excellence in their studies,” the 17-year-old of Siberia, Labasa said.

The youngest of three siblings, whose hobby is reading story books, said she was thankful to the teachers for choosing her to be headgirl.

There are 36 prefects.
