RKS, prefects set 2018 target

- Maika Bolatiki

Achieving academic excellence is the main target that Ratu Kadavulevu School prefects, principal and teachers aim to achieve this year. This was revealed during the prefect induction ceremony at the school chapel in Lodoni, Tailevu, yesterday.

Ratu Penaia Cavuilati was named headboy while Rosivela Naidibi and Poasa Vunaki were named deputy headboys.

Ratu Kadavulevu School (RKS) headboy, Ratu Penaia Cavuilati of Cakau House, fully supports the 2018 school target of “Academic Excellence”.

Ratu Penaia said he was surprised when told he would be the school headboy.

He said the position came with big responsibilities, but he was ready to shoulder them.

He said one of those responsibilities that he would prioritise was to influence the students to improve in their academic studies. The Year 13 subjects include Mathematics, Physics, English, Technical Drawing and Computer Studies.

He wants to be an aircraft engineer.

His mother Adi Akisi Lewasoleyawa Cavuilati was happy that her son was named the headboy of the school and said her son would receive all the support needed for him to achieve his future dream. School principal Peni Senikarawa, a former student told the Fiji Sun yesterday that everything would fall in place when academic excellence was achieved. Last year they had a pass rate of 66 per cent which they would target to improve on this year. Chief guest and former student, the Yatu Lau Company chief executive officer Alipate Naiorosui, said yesterday was a special day for the school calendar.

He said it was to honour the selected group of students as prefects for the year.

“At the end of the day, we would go home proud that young boys have been officially bestowed power and authority over the other students by the principal and teachers,” he said.

“At the end of each term we should equally be happy and expect that all prefects have performed well to support the teachers.” He said the badges given to the student leaders yesterday were a symbol of trust by the principal and teachers to delegate responsibility.

He told the student leaders: “An honest leader will gain trust by those who he leads or followers.”
