Suva Muslim College School yesterday badged a headboy and headgirl who share the same ideal of leading by example. Headboy Sailosi Raisele and headgirl Faaziah Ali were surprised to be elected the school’s head prefect at the induction ceremony yesterday. They headed a big batch of 118 inductees who will ensure that discipline is top priority in the school which has 525 students and 47 teachers.

The college, situated in the bustling suburb of Nabua, offers classes from Year 9 to Year 13. It is ranked among the best high schools in the country.

Sailosi is a Year 13 student and hails from Nabouwalu, Ono Island, in Kadavu.

He is the elder of two siblings, and his parents live on Beqa Island.

Sailosi currently resides in Suva with his uncle. He was extremely proud and happy to be the new headboy of the school.

He has not held any such positions previously and was surprised when he was voted in as headboy,

Sailosi said the headboy’s badge would bring in a new wave of change in him as he realised there were more responsibilities before him.

“The badge comes with big responsibilities and I know I have to fill in big shoes,’’ Sailosi said.

“I will work with the headgirl to lead the students, to improve on the disciplinary issues in the school.” Headgirl Faaziah, 18, is from of Suva and has previously held a prefect’s badge.

She, too, was surprised to know she was voted the headgirl.

Faaziah said her view of leading by example was to do something big for the school so students could be motivated. “I want to achieve something big for the teachers and students that everyone is motivated every day,’’ she said. “I want to be a leader whom students can come to and raise his/her concerns and the future leaders could follow as well.”
