Tanoa Rakiraki Rises From the Destruction

- CHARLES CHMABERS

The Tanoa Rakiraki Hotel has been named as one the finalists in the ANZ 2017 Fiji Excellence in Tourism Awards in the Accomodation Budget category. It suffered significant damage from Tropical Cyclone Winston and was forced to close all operations.

Tanoa Rakiraki Hotel will stand with South Sea Island and Vuda Marina Fiji in the Accommodation Budget category. Under the leadership of hotel manager Rajeshwari Mani, the Tanoa Rakiraki Hotel, part of the Tanoa Group of Hotels, rebuilt its damaged buildings following the devastation in 2016.

Since that fateful event the team at Tanoa Rakiraki, supported by the Tanoa Hotel Group and the Reddy Group, has been working hard to start returning the property to its former glory.

“A special thank you to the Reddy Family, Mr YP Reddy (chairman) Reddy Group for having confidence in me and my team and bring us back to its former glory,” Ms Mani said.

On November 1, last year, the Tanoa Hotel Group proudly announced the reopening of the Tanoa Rakiraki Hotel with the introduction of 35 brand new rooms and 10 standards rooms.

The hotel features its iconic bowling green, pool side dining, and traditional restaurant offering breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Area general manager, Narend Kumar said the new rooms offered not only the leisure and corporate traveler but government ministries too, a fantastic accommodation option when travelling to the top of the main island, Viti Levu. “All the senior members of the Tanoa Hotel Group and the Reddy Group, are so very proud of the actions and determination displayed by Ms Mani and her team on the night and every day since.

“They have displayed the true Fijian Spirit and the Tanoa Way o a daily basis.

“They never gave up or lost hope, and have worked very hard to return “their” Hotel to an operational status.” Group Sales Executive and Tanoa Plaza general manager Mere Rakoroi said the entire group was proud of achievements of Rakiraki Hotel.

“Especially after they were so badly damaged after TC Winston so Ms Mani and her team deserved to be nominated and we are looking forward to the event.

Ms Mani said she felt great that the hotel has been nominated.

“After TC Winston we stand proud of the Investment done towards the building and the facilities we offer.”

“This is similar to a four star hotel with great feedback from our guests.”

“This is our fourth time being nominated for this prestigious award, and blessed at the same time.

“Tanoa Rakiraki Hotel is special in that our people make our guests feel at home in peaceful, unique location with no threat to flooding.”
