We are told that the Hamilton 7s win by our Fiji Airways 7s team has fired up the Fiji Airways Fijian 10s Giants as the team departed on Tuesday to take part in the Brisbane Global Tens in Australia, which starts on tomorrow.

This means, like the excitement and Fijian flair we saw in the Fiji Airways Drua last year, we should brace ourselves for another entertaining and exciting 10s rugby this weekend.

The Brisbane Global Rugby Tens website reveals that the star-studded French club Pau – the home of All Blacks Conrad Smith, Colin Slade and Tom Taylor – and Olympic 7s gold medallists Fiji, will contest the 2018 tournament alongside the ten Australian and New Zealand Super Rugby clubs. The field will be rounded out by two of the standout teams from 2017, Japan’s Panasonic Wild Knights and Samoa. Our national rugby team, the Fiji Airways Flying Fijians have been having a hard time trying to defeat Australia and New Zealand in 15s rugby, let alone the ten Australian and New Zealand Super Rugby clubs. I believe that the Brisbane Global Tens tournament in Australia is one way of exposing our Fijian style of rugby and learning the inner secrets of the strength and weakness in teams from New Zealand and Australia.

If our Fiji 10s team get to win this tournament and remain consistent in future meets, then our Fiji Airways Flying Fijians team should be on track to win the Rugby World Cup.

Wishful planning and thinking aside, let us support our Fiji Airways Fijian 10s Giants as they strive to repeat the magic of Hamilton in Brisbane.

Go Fiji, go!
