Prasit and Dipshika set big ambitions for the school year
Newly inducted student heads of Tabia Sanatan College, who are originally from Tabia, Labasa aim to form an ex-students’ association to draw help for school projects. Prasit Narayan, 18, said he knew that he would be inducted as the headboy of the school since he was the deputy headboy last year. “It is my dream to give back to the school, for it has instilled in me great knowledge and given me many opportunities to use my talents,” the aspiring doctor said. “My father, Suruj Narayan, was one of the pioneer students and he also has a dream to give back to the school.
“Given the privilege to be the headboy of the school, I will use every resource and contact to form an ex-students association. “The school has been planning to build two classrooms and the work is on hold for a while for various reasons,” said the youngest of three siblings.
“Perhaps if all ex-students gather together, then they can put in ideas as to how effectively the school can be assisted.” Meanwhile, the newly inducted headgirl Dipshika Chand said she had a similar mindset and plans to help out Prasit.
“My mother, Subhashni Devi, is also a former student of this school and she encourages me to do something new for the school that will benefit everyone,” said the 17-year-old aspiring teacher.
“Our school is set in a rural area surrounded by sugarcane, rice farming and vegetation.
“Students are from five different areas in and around Tabia and most of them are from farming backgrounds.
“Being the headgirl of the school enables and provides me with a platform to voice my opinion and work together with 37 prefects to produce better team work and results.”
She said the student roll from Years Nine to 13 is 211 with 27 teachers.
