Tale Offers Timely Reminder On Leadership Role To Sila Prefects
Sila Central High School prefects were given a timely reminder during their induction ceremony on Tuesday by chief guest Commissioner Central Setareki Tale.
He said that by receiving their badges all prefects had accepted the mantle of school leadership together with the responsibilities that came with it.
“Leadership is defined as the ability of an individual to influence, motivate and enable others to realise their full potential,” Mr Tale said. “Leadership is about bringing positive changes, to individuals and to the organisation. This is a challenge ahead of you.”
He urged them, to make their school the institution of choice in the Nausori district.
The Commissioner Central said scores of students from Nausori and the surrounding areas were still taking the long route to attend schools in Suva because the school lacked recognition.
As an academic institution he said Sila Central was doing relatively well.
“The school returned with a pass rate in Year 12 from 29 per cent in 2016 to 59 per cent in 2017 and had an even better result in the Year 13 pass rate of 47 per cent in 2016 to 74 per cent in 2017.
“It is time to unite, lift the standard of the school and let it be the premier secondary school in the Nausori Education District.” School headboy Penijamini Rabuku from Raralevu Village and headgirl Marion Gugutau from Cicia island in the Lau Group thanked the Commissioner Central for his wise message.
They have promised to lead by example and influence the students to study hard, pass with good marks and make Sila Central High School the premier secondary school in Nausori.
In taking the position of head prefect Rabuku said he was inspired by the wise words of his grandmother Litia Rabuku who told him – “Opportunity comes only once and when it comes grab it”.
He thanked the school principal Asenaca Babitu and teachers for the faith they had in him to be the headboy.
Mr Rabuku said there would be challenges but he was ready for them.
He wants to be a veterinary officer in the future.
His father Aisake Rabuku is a legal officer at the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF).
For Gugutau being appointed headgirl was a happy moment for her.
With an aim to be vigilant with her school work as well as her role as head prefect she will work closely with the headboy.
She wants to be a nurse for the RFMF.
School principal Asenaca Babitu said she expected the headboy, headgirl and all prefects to be honest with their work.
