University of Fiji eyes choice graduates
The University of Fiji continues to place emphasis on churning out work-ready graduates to help develop a knowledge-based economy.
This was stressed by Vice-Chancellor, Professor Prem Misir while speaking during the student orientation at the university’s Saweni campus on Tuesday.
Mr Misir highlighted the main building blocks and various aspects that students must be aware of when they enter the university.
“I harbour no illusions that your entrance into the intellectual halls of this university would provide face-to-face interactions with three components as building blocks of a knowledge society, among others; these building blocks are internationalisation, inter-disciplinary, and academic-industry collaboration,” Mr Misir said.
“Key aspects that students need to be aware of when they enter the university include plagiarism, absenteeism, student evaluations, the importance of the inter-disciplinary approach to studying and much more.”
He added that as students they would be able to experience disciplinarity and inter-disciplinarity at the university.
“Disciplinarity the expertise within a particular discipline; and inter-disciplinarity will enable students to study problems and their solutions that require inputs from several disciplines,” he said. Other speakers during the student orientation were, Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Board (TSLB) Divisional Head West, Ravinesh Kishore, who advised students present during the orientation on the various policies and regulations of the scholarship and loans scheme. Registrar Kamlesh Arya spoke on the student academic support structures as well as the regulations governing the university while Ravineet Sami, the executive director finance at UniFiji, spoke on the financial and facilities aspects.
The student orientation was conducted at the university’s Saweni and Suva campuses.
