Future Farms Limited, trading as Rooster Poultry yesterday cemented an agreement with the College of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (CAFF) at Fiji National University for the recruitment of its two top graduates each year.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed yesterday by the general manager of Rooster Poultry Stanley Raniga and the Dean of CAFF Professor John Chelliah. Future Farm’s Graduate Trainee Programme and the implementation of this MOU will see the graduates being recruited on a contractual basis of two years.

The two years will serve as a training ground where the respective graduates would be rotated on various operational areas within the livestock operations to get a better understanding of the poultry operations in a commercial setting. Mr Raniga said it was evident that there was a current scarcity of expert livestock personnel to manage commercial poultry organisation but this gap within Future Farms would be filled.

“We started the Graduate Trainee programme in 2015 and saw success with the programme.”

“In 2017, and after various discussions, we made a decision to further cement the Graduate Trainee programme by having a joint venture with the College of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries at the Fiji National University,” said Mr Raniga.

Future Farms is an upcoming and dynamic organisation in the business of premier quality poultry products and strives on its core values where quality of their products was always the prime focus.

“FFL ventured into having a structured development programme for their key areas of skills in the workplace. “To this motion, we have a succession plan which monitors the skill flow within the organisation and sees the necessary gap that needs to be addressed.

“Our succession plan is reviewed annually and projected onto our Strategic HR Plan linking to the Training Plan. “Every month the graduates are required to submit a report which is vetted by the Section and Department Head and reviewed by the HR Team.

“The graduates are continually mentored and coached during their tenure,” Mr Raniga added.

Professor Chelliah briefly outlined that the major strategy of FNU was to ensure graduate employability.

“This implies that graduates should be able to get a job upon graduation and ply their theoretical knowledge on the job and get better with the field experience,” Professor Chelliah said.

He mentioned that even though the CAFF registers a number of interest of various MOUs.

An MOU with Future Farms where top graduates from respective disciplines of the College were employed instantly as part of their succession plan was just right for them from their strategic perspective.

Executive director for Future Farms Pramesh Sharma acknowledged FNU and thanked the government for initiatives currently taken through the FNU in advancing agriculture and livestock programs.
