Fiji, PNG Sign MOU On Police Co-operation
Fiji and Papua New Guinea (PNG) have signed a memorandum of Understanding on Police co-operation.
The Minister for Defence and National Security, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola, said he signed the MOU with Jelta Wong, the PNG Minister for Police.
Ratu Inoke said the two forces would benefit from the MOU. The signing, he said, was made after the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) meeting in Port Moresby.
Ratu Inoke has also joined Pacific leaders in congratulating Prime Minister Peter O’Neill for being the chair of the 2018 Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation (APEC) Summit to be held in PNG.
“Mr Prime Minister, Fiji knows that 2018 is a very important year for Papua New Guinea as you prepare to host the APEC meeting in November right here in Port Moresby,” Ratu Inoke Kubuabola said “Fiji knows too well the amount of preparations that you will engage in to host the event of this magnitude and we wish you well in your preparations. Fiji stands ready to assist Papua New Guinea in every way possible to achieve its objectives.”
Mr O’Neill has assured Pacific leaders that he would be inviting them to be at the summit. APEC is a forum for 21 Pacific Rim member economies that promote free trade throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
They are - Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Chile, China, Hong Kong-China, Indonesia, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, United States, and Vietnam.
