The newly-appointed prefects of Lautoka Special School were reminded to wear their badges with pride and uphold the responsibility that comes with it. While speaking during the opening address, chief guest Aseri Natomanasiga informed the prefects that to do well in their role they must be good listeners and always be selfless.

“You have been chosen to assist teachers, so wear your badges with pride and never shy away from your various responsibilities,” she said. “To coincide with the week’s theme ‘Be Tolerant’, good leaders will always need to consider others needs before themselves.

“Listen well to your fellow colleagues and learn to understand them, watch over them and ensure that they are always doing well.”

For school headboy, 15-year-old Sekope Domolevu will not let his hearing impairment stop him from carrying out his responsibilities.

Speaking through his interpreter, Sekope said he was happy to be chosen and he advised the students to always lend a helping hand to those in need.

“Help one another when they are in need and the students must always behave and listen to the prefects and teachers,” he said.

“I will try my best to what i may face.”

The shy Totoya lad aspires to a vehicle driver because he enjoys cruising. Eighteen-year-old, Masilina Mara said she was humbled and honoured to be the headgirl for the school.

“This is an honour and I will lead the school with pride and guide them in the right way,” she said. Ms Mara hopes to be an air hostess in the future since it has always been her dream to travel around the world.

There were 12 prefects who were badged yesterday at the school.
