- ANASILINI RATUVA Edited by Leone Cabenatabua

Uci House defended their title during the 2018 Adi Cakobau School inter-house competition at the ANZ Stadium, Suva, yesterday.

The girls in red collected 16 gold medals, 11 silver and 12 bronze to finish at the top while Lagakali settled with 12 gold, 12 silver and eight bronze medals. Kakala House pocketed 10 gold, 15 silver and 17 bronze medals and Mokosoi settled in fourth place with nine gold, 11 silver and eight bronze medals. ACS vice-principal Laniana Tawake believes the school is aware of their motive this year as they work towards defending their girl’s division of the Coca-Cola Games.

“We’re taking one game at a time,” she said.

“We’re done with the inter-house meet and now we are looking forward to select more than 100 athletes for the Triple N Zone which is set for March 15.

“All athletes who won gold, silver and bronze in this inter-house meet qualifies for the zone.

“After the zonal meet we look forward to select at least 80 athletes for the Coke Games.”

ACS athletes have training under the watchful eyes of Antonio Raboiliku. The no-nonsense coach had earlier on led Jasper Williams High School of Lautoka to scoop the girl’s title three years in a row.

Meanwhile, Marica Korovulavula is adamant to win the junior girls sprint events at the 2018 Coca-Cola Games. The 15-year-old from Mataso village in Kadavu was awarded the best junior girl’s athlete award after winning the 100m, 200m and later anchored her Uci House junior girls 4x100m relay.

“I have been training well and I look forward to a good finish at the Coca-Cola Games,” Korovulavula said.

The Year 10 student won the sub-junior girls sprint events at the Fiji Finals last year.
