Denarau Lions Aim Oldies 7’s Title
Former national 7’s reps Asiveni and Savenaca Lutumailagi are expected to bolster the Big Bula Denarau Lions chance to lift the Oldies title in the 32nd Fiji Bitter Nawaka 7’s this weekend.
Other players includes Akariva Kila, Joe Qoro and Jim ‘the horse’ Nacokula, for his speed.
The side will face top guns such as Water Authority Fiji (WAF), Suva Oldies and host Nawaka at Prince Charles Park, Nadi.
Team coordinator Epineri Susu said they were adamant for the challenge.
“We have been competing at the Nawaka 7’s since 2013 and we have played in the finals in three tournaments. This time we need to defy the odds and beat the team in the finals which have been our shortfalls over the years,” Susu said. “There are 12 teams in the competition and that’s a great move by the organisers to cater for these players.”
The team is made up of the Nadi Denarau Friends of Rugby who are the host of the RES Fiji Masters 10’s.
“It will be a great sight, seeing former player’s province and national reps reunite again,” he said. “The response has been great with more teams coming in and we are looking forward to the completion to promote the tournament objective to curb the rise of NonCommunicable Diseases (NCD) which is a big killer every year.” He added the side will be using this tournament as stepping stone in their bid to defend their title at the Darwin 10’s later in the year.
