The Fiji Electricity Authority will carry out maintenance work on the 132,000 Volts (132kV) Wailoa-Cunningham Road Transmission line tomorrow.

The maintenance work will be carried out between 4am to 8pm.

FEA chief excutive officer Hasmukh Patel confirmed that because of the maintenance work that will be carried out on Sunday from the Wailoa Hydro Electric Power Station to Cunningham Road Zone substation in Suva, power will be switched off. “The planned line outage is to allow FEA teams to safely replace corroded bolts on 132,000 Volts Transmission Line Tower No. 131 at Nakobalevu and Tower No. 132 at Wailoku,” Mr Patel said.

“This work is part of the on-going Monasavu Half Line Refurbishment programme.”

He said during the period, FEA would rely solely on its diesel power stations at Korovou, Kinoya, Rokobili and Deuba to supply electricity to the Central Division customers from Matanipusi in Serua to Balekinaga in Tailevu including areas of Deuba, Navua, Suva, Nausori and Korovou.

“The available diesel generation capacity in the Central Division is sufficient enough to meet the power demand of all our customers,” Mr Patel said. “Customers in the Central Division may experience power supply outages between 4am to 8pm in the event of a failure of any one of our diesel generating sets or due to unrelated power line faults.

“FEA will do its utmost to ensure that these power interruptions are kept to a minimum.

“We are also hoping for favourable weather for the maintenance works to be carried out.

“If we experience unfavourable weather conditions, the maintenance works will be postponed to another Sunday whereby most corporate bodies are closed for business.”
