Serua province villages directed to Follow intergrated development plan
The new IVDP covers everything and is good for the villages
All villages in the province of Serua have been given an Integrated Village Development Plan (IVDP) to follow. This was confirmed to the Fiji
Sun yesterday by Taito Nakalevu, the re-elected chairman of the Serua Provincial Council.
He said when he was elected to be representative of those working in Suva to the council in 2014, he had asked for a plan for village development. In those days he said the plan was infrastructure oriented. However, there was a need to look at development holistically. “The new IVDP covers everything and is good for the villages,” Mr Nakalevu said.
The developments are in accordance with the policies and strategies formulated by the Government and now the five pillars of the iTaukei Affairs Board development.
He said the five pillars were – Good Governance; Well Being; Economic Empowerment; Conservation and Climate Change and Vanua and Traditional Leadership. According to Mr Nakalevu the problem they were facing now was; funding.
He thanked all the village headmen (turaga ni koro) and villagers for the effort they had put into the development of their villages with the little funding they had.
Most of the villages he said organised their own fundraising for their village projects.
Mr Nakalevu said this was one of his major objectives when he was elected as chairman.
“In the next three years all villages would be following their IVDP,” he said.
